Leading the way toward global application - Fenwal Gas Ignition Controls approved to latest CE standard

To meet the requirements of customers pursuing global markets, Fenwal Controls, a leading manufacturer of automatic gas ignition and temperature controls for commercial and industrial OEM customers, has recently received approval on the new Fenwal Series 35-60, 35-61 and 35-63 gas ignition controls to the latest CE standard EN 298:2003. The new European CE standard, effective at the end of September 2006, supersedes the 1998 standard and requires significant upgrades in safety and fault detection capabilities to be designed into all automatic burner control systems for gas burners and gas burning appliances.

With CE approval to EN 298:2003, Fenwal’s gas ignition controls are third-party approved for use in gas-fired appliances intended for European or Australian distribution. The Fenwal 35-6x Series controls are ideal for a wide range of applications including commercial cooking equipment, HVAC, radiant/infrared heaters, boilers and furnaces. The Fenwal CE approved Series include the 35-60 standard direct spark ignition control, the 35-61 direct spark ignition control with a combustion blower relay and the 35-63 intermittent pilot ignition control for appliances requiring spark-to-pilot design.

“Fewer domestic control manufacturers seem to be participating in global standard approval processes, and, as a result, fewer control options are available to support the global approval of our OEMs’ appliances and make them competitive in export markets,” says Kevin Norby, Product/Program Manager for Fenwal Controls. “At Fenwal, we are global-thinking and offer gas ignition controls with the appropriate certifications to enable our customers to pursue global markets.  The 35-6x Series will soon be approved to CSA and AGA (Australian Gas), allowing our customers to use one SKU to cover the most active global markets.”
