Fenwal manufactures and designs Direct Spark Ignition (DSI) Controls. Applications for our Direct Spark Ignition controls cover the range, from boilers and furnaces to infrared burners, rooftop heaters, water heaters and every other type of gas fired appliance.

We design our Direct Spark Ignition controls to safely deliver and control LP & natural gas in all types of commercial gas-fired appliances.

By using a high voltage spark electrode as the sensor, or through a separate local or remote sensing probe, flame sensing is achieved. All models of our Direct Spark Ignition modules use the principle of flame rectification to monitor the burner flame. In addition, a patented self-monitoring safety circuit provides a type of protection not found in other Direct Spark Ignition systems.

Direct spark ignition controls are available for 12VDC, 24VAC and 120VAC applications. Our CSA certified microprocessor circuit designs provide precise, repeatable timing sequences for ignition times and purge times (pre-, inter- and post-) as well as multiple tries for ignition. On-board diagnostics with LED output provides assistance with troubleshooting and ensures safe and efficient burner operation. Fenwal controls are not position sensitive and can be mounted vertically or horizontally using standard hardware.
